Churchyard planting
July 2024 - Some questions have recently been raised about how the churchyard is mown, especially following all the wet weather and the abundant growth as a result. Our volunteer churchyard team, led by Alan Oswald are working very hard to make sure our churchyard is well maintained as a public site for burials and memorials alongside a place for reflection - but also as a space to encourage wildlife and promote biodiversity. As a church, we are committed to being an Eco Church and I am delighted that our churchyard recently received an award by the Cambridgeshire Churchyard Conservation Scheme. It has been lovely to install swift boxes in our church tower, an eco trail around the churchyard and enjoy the bug cathedral built and donated by the scouts, as well as host eco events such as the moth and bat night.
We also have to work with the national Church of England Churchyard rules and regulations, see here.
We have developed a churchyard management plan ,which is available to read in the church porch detailing how the churchyard is managed each season of the year. This will be available shortly in digital form on our website. Furthermore, we hope to shortly install notices for the public to access information on our churchyard via a QR code at any time.
However, if anyone has further questions or is not able to reach a grave of a family member or loved one, please do let me know.
Once again an enormous thank you to Alan Oswald and all the volunteer churchyard team who work so hard to maintain our beautiful churchyard.
